Griggs Virtual University and Academy Griggs University/Griggs International Academy continues its mission to meet educational challenges for students anywhere, at anytime, and provide solutions. In the past decade the opportunities for learning through expanded technologies have increased phenomenally. Taking advantage of these technologies, we’ve added online course work for high school and college students, but the needs are rapidly expanding. With the growing home school population, overcrowding in school systems, concern for personal safety in traditional schools, increased expenses in small church districts to support a fully equipped school, Griggs understands the need to expand its services through a virtual school to meet these challenges. A virtual school of cyberschool is a versatile solution to schools filled to capacity or rural areas that want quality education but do not have the resourses to support a program. A virtual school is practical and less expensive than a “brick and mortar” school. It provides a wealth of resources at a student’s or teacher’s fingertips. The flexiblity is invaluable and allows every student—shy or dynamic—a place at the front of the class. Since it is not campus-based, Griggs has the flexibility to hire part-time teachers that excel in a subject from anywhere in the country. The teacher becomes the site coordinator and coach—making sure students receive the support and resources they need to succeed in online learning. A virtual school offers new ways to meet the needs of students through multimedia technologies and the Internet and provides multiple resources and creative activities for interaction. Students have a myriad of options. They can meet with an advisor or registrar in a virtual administrative office; study in the virtual library that has titles displayed to support Griggs’ course work; join a virtual campus activity; or attend a virtual chapel service and share their concerns and joys with the chaplain and fellow students. This level of service is not possible with many campus-based schools due to funding, distance and available talent. It becomes readily accessible to students “virtually”—at their convenience.
